How to Love God

How to Love God

But whoever loves God is known by God.
– 1 Corinthians 8:3

It’s a simple thing to say you love God but harder to reflect that love in the way you live. And there’s a big difference between loving God in the best way you know how and loving Him in the way He tells you to. You show your love for God two ways: obeying His commands and loving the way He loves.

Paul observed that “Knowledge puffs up while love builds up. Those who think they know something do not yet know as they ought to know” (1 Corinthians 8:1-2 NIV). In other words, if you think you know everything about love, you’ve got a lot to learn.

What is it that we’re supposed to know? How to love.

You show God you love Him as you love others the way He loves you. God loves you sacrificially, knowing who you are completely, all your pros and cons, and investing His absolute best in your highest good. Something happens when you try to love others like that: you also love God.

As it turns out, you may not know the first thing about love, but God does. When you love Him enough to love others the way He loves you, He will teach you all you need to know.
