You have been on numerous dates, talked for hours together, and see the potential for a lasting relationship. But before you commit, here are a few things you should consider.

Do you think you are ready to commit to a relationship?

Will this relationship make life better?

The most important thing to ask yourself when you begin to court the notion of a commitment. If the answer is anything other than a strong yes, you may want to reconsider.

What makes you want to commit to an individual? Are they the one for you? Or, are they just the person who best meets your criteria for a partner? Or, can you not bear the thought of them being with someone else? These are all questions you should ask yourself to shed light on your own feelings & motives.

The Future

You may already be picturing a long life together, but you need to be clear about what your potential partner is looking for. Their plans may not fit with yours. Be open and discuss where you both see a serious relationship going.

You share Christianity as a religion, and the lifestyle that comes with it, but what about other philosophies & lifestyle choices? Smoking may be a longterm problem if you ultimately live with someone who smokes regularly, or perhaps your partner’s political or cultural views may clash with yours. Don’t be afraid to talk about these things with one another.

The responses to the these questions can strengthen your relationship, and make commitment an even more real, and exciting prospect.
