Sharing interests and prayers

The Story of Ruth and Brian

Christian dating difficult

Stories and Marriages by Brian and Ruth

Ruth attended Loughborough Elim Pentecostal Church in Leicestershire for over 12 years which she enjoyed although there was never anybody of the same age as herself. This made Christian dating difficult with no one of her age to meet! Although she had friends she always felt lonely and wanted someone special to talk and pray and share her life with. Friends from church had been praying for years that Ruth would find someone but so far this had not happened. So when Ruth found an advert for friendsfirst in the Elim magazine ‘Direction’ she thought she would look into it further.

After much thought Ruth decided to join; although not having any expectations. Upon joining friendsfirst Ruth was in contact with one other person but this did not come to anything.

Brian attended a small Baptist Chapel in Kent where he was the only young person, again making Christian dating difficult. Brian had been praying that he would meet a young lady who he could spend his life with but in his current situation it was unlikely that he would meet anyone. After a prayer meeting one evening the Pastor’s wife handed Brian an envelope which she said he might be interested in! At home, Brian opened it and found it to be details about friendsfirst. After some time, he joined and received his first batch of profiles. One in particular caught his attention. It was a lady from Loughborough who shared many of his interests including composing music. On 5th June 2004 Brian sent an e-mail to Ruth…

Ruth read this email on 7th June 2004 and replied as she liked the sound (e-mail) of this man from Kent! They continued to e-mail for a couple of months before speaking on the phone and eventually meeting at the end of July. They spent the day together and instantly hit it off. After this they met every weekend usually with Brian having to drive 155 miles from Maidstone to Loughborough. Their relationship blossomed and they fell in love! On a beautiful December morning on a hill top in Leicestershire Brian went down on one knee and proposed! Ruth accepted and on 23rd April 2005 Brian and Ruth were married at Loughborough Elim Pentecostal Church. For their honeymoon they went to the Channel Islands and Brian moved up to Loughborough where he is settling down with his new wife.

Brian and Ruth are very grateful to Katharine Gray and the team for setting upfriendsfirst but ultimately are so thankful to God for bringing them together as everything is in his hands. It also goes to show that no matter how far away from each other you are or no matter how Christian dating has been difficult in the past, if you are right for each other, nothing will keep you apart.
